North Norfolk has a purpose-designed ‘showroom’ for assistive technologies – clever aids and devices that make it possible for older or disabled people to live more independently.
The Smart House, at 1 Huntley Crescent, Sheringham, has been developed by Victory Housing Trust in partnership with Norfolk County Council Adult Social Services. Victory has adapted the property to show the types of changes that can be made to a property to make it safer and more accessible. For example, the kitchen has been adapted to suit someone who uses a wheelchair, and the bathroom has been fitted with a level access shower. Visitors can also discuss other assistive technologies available from Adult Social Services which reduce levels of risk, help people to feel safer and more secure in their own homes, support helpers and carers, and assist people with memory difficulties.
If you’d like to visit the Assistive Technologies Smart House phone Maxine Haydon on 01328 863241. Alternatively go to www.norfolk.gov.uk/assistivetechnology for lots of ideas for independent living.
