Sheltered Housing is accommodation for people over 60 years of age. The unfurnished flats and bungalows provide independent living in a safe, secure, communal environment with the support of a Sheltered Housing Officer. We manage 20 sheltered schemes in various locations across North Norfolk

The majority of our sheltered schemes have a communal lounge and kitchen, many also provide a guest room and laundry facility.

Each property is entirely self-contained and residents may come and go as they please, but with the knowledge there is help available at the press of a button.

All properties have an intercom system linked directly to a Control Centre, who can be contacted 24 hours a day by pressing a button or pulling a cord.

What does the Sheltered Housing Officer do?

The Sheltered Housing Officer will provide support by completing an Independent Living Plan (ILP) with you and agreeing what assistance or support you might need. They will liaise with other agencies or your family to ensure you receive the right assistance including personal care, benefits and financial services.

As part of the Independent Living Plan the Sheltered Housing Officer will offer a visiting or call service which will be tailored to your individual needs and will be reviewed every 6 months, when circumstances change or at your request. The Sheltered Housing Officer's role is to provide an enhanced housing management service to enable tenants to live independently without interfering in your daily life.

How do I apply to live in a Sheltered Housing Scheme?

Our sheltered housing schemes are allocated through North Norfolk District Councils Choice Based Lettings Scheme Your Choice Your Home. To apply for sheltered housing through this scheme you must be registered by completing the Your Choice Your Home application form, which is available on line or a paper form can be requested from North Norfolk District Council. For more information on the Your Choice Your Home scherne, or for an application, you can contact North Norfolk District Council's housing team on 01263 516375 or emailing housing@north-norfolk.gov.uk.

Supporting People Charges

Since April 2003, we have been required to charge our sheltered housing residents an amount for the support services they receive. The main element of this charge relates to the cost of providing the alarm pull system and sheltered housing officer services. The Supporting People charge is payable in addition to rent and other service charges, such as heating.

If you receive full or partial housing benefit, then you will also be automatically covered for your Supporting People Charge. If you do not receive housing benefit, you may still qualify for financial help under Norfolk County Council's Fairer Charging Assessment scheme, and we can help you apply for financial assistance if necessary.
